Tips For JBQ Coaches
Things to do BEFORE the meet! Permission slips - have a permission slip for each child signed by the parent or guardian Note to parents - Have a note listing: 1. Money needed - Tell parents how many meals will be needed and the approximate price per meal. (Ex. We will be eating lunch prior to the meet and dinner after, so each child will need $14.00 for kid's meals). You might consider taking the money from the children and keeping it in individual zip lock bags 2. Departure and arrival times - Tell the parents what time to meet and what time you will leave. We try very hard to be through at 4pm, so give them an APPROXIMATE arrival time. Plus have cell phone numbers to call parents as you come into town. Depending on your church - have your own JBQ fund with fundraisers. Regional's is expensive. You have at least 1 usually 2 overnight stays, plus meals. Like some famous person said, "you can never have too much money." Line up officials: Every team is required to have 2 officials. You need to get the officials trained (online training test). Get a Team Name: Every team is encouraged to choose a team name. Most teams will have a t-shirt made with the team name on it. You might consider have the kid's name put on the front of the shirt. This will help scorekeepers. Also consider having t-shirt for your officials as well as the kids and coaches. REGISTER your team. I know this is a pain. But if your team is registered, I can have them entered in the computer for you to check spelling and I can have the rounds already generated. Otherwise the first meet ends up taking forever! Last but not least - Remember why you are doing this! We are working on learning God's Word, teamwork, and self-esteem. Everyone wants to win and everyone is a winner!
