How do I get started?

Definitely the #1 question.   You first find out who is in charge in your district and ask them.  I can try to put it in print but there is nothing like talking to someone in your area.  Believe it or not JBQ is just a little different in every district.   The fundamentals are the same but every district does it just a tad different for first year quizzers and the veteran or experienced quizzers.

What do I need to get started?

There are only 2 items which I consider essential in organizing a JBQ ministry in your church:

1. Guidelines and Rule for JBQ
As with anything you need to know the rules this is only a few dollars to purchase.

2. Bible Fact-Pak CD
With the CD and a computer you can generate practice rounds, create study guides and books of questions for the kids study.  Plus this is the most accurate form of the questions and answers.  This item currently cost $99 but is a necessity for teaching and training a team.

Both of these items can be purchased from GPH at: http://nationaljbq.org/resources/index.cfm

There are other JBQ resources sold through GPH and can be found at: http://womensministries.ag.org/store/startcat.cfm?cat=sAGJBQ&mastercat=&path=sAGJBQ

Many are also listed on the products page on JBQ.ORG and then there is Buzz Boxes.

Do I need a buzzer system to start?

NO, you do not need a buzzer system to start JBQ.  Would it help, definitely.

Buzzer systems are expen$ive, and there are many ways to get one to practice with.  Check to see if you can borrow one from another team and/or your district.  Some churches have extras or you can borrow during times they don't practice.  Some districts have some for meets as well as kids kamp, some districts will let you use them as well.

Karen Hockenberry in Omaha, NE offers a cordless buzzer for to use for individual practice but they could be used for regular practice as well.

Check out the Buzzer Box page for vendors.

What are the age limits?

JBQ is open to all kids 1st through 6th grade.  In the West Texas District we have 2 groupings.  The "B" League is for first year quizzers and all kindergarteners.  They will quiz the first half of the 10s, 20s and 30s.   The "A" League is second year quizzers, 1st to 6th grade and they quiz all the questions. Any team can opt to be in the "A" League, but only new quizzers can be in the "'B" League.

Do I really need Officials?

Yes!  What's an official?  Officials are the adults or High School kids who judge the matches.  You as a team are required to bring two officials to every meet.   We ask that the officials become certified.  Contact your District Coordinator for more information.
