Meet the Staff

Meet the Invitational Staff.

Missouri has long been an active supporter of Junior Bible Quiz and high level quizzing.  The staff of the Show Me State Invitational are all active supporters of Junior Bible Quiz, with many years of experience.

Cheryl Matejka

Cheryl has been involved with JBQ since 1999 when her and her husband began coaching. She has been involved with the Bible Quiz program since high school, first as a Teen Quizzer, then as a coach and finally as a coordinator of the Greater Midwest Bible (teen) Quiz tournament in St. Charles for five years. She currently coaches at and coordinates both her local church JBQ program and the Northern Missouri JBQ District. She has also taken a team to the national level, both at the TBQ and JBQ levels and is excited about the awesome impact that God’s Word is having on kids through the JBQ program.

Cheryl and her family attend First Assembly of God in St. Charles, MO.

Michael Paulsen

Michael has been involved in JBQ since 1989 when he and his wife helped start the Kansas City Section of JBQ.  Over the years he has been involved as a coach (taking a team to Nationals), church JBQ coordinator, works at the Regional level with the North Central Region, was a member of the Minnesota State JBQ Board including chairing the board, and is active as a National JBQ Festival Staff Member.  He currently manages web sites for a number of JBQ activities, including:

Michael and his wife currently attend Crown Point Church of the Assemblies of God in Lee's Summit, MO.

Steve Petty

Steve has been involved in JBQ since 1998 when he and his wife started coaching a team. It didn’t take long for him to “catch the fever” and develop a passion for this wonderful ministry. During the past five years of coaching he has taken a team to Nationals twice. Three years ago he also assumed the responsibility of JBQ Coordinator for his church. Seeing the need for another “top notch” invitational tournament in the Midwest, two years ago Steve began promoting the idea of such an event. As one of the coordinators of the Show Me State Invitational, he will continue to promote JBQ as a powerful discipleship ministry.

Steve currently attends Evangel Temple Assembly of God in Kansas City, MO.
