Congratulations to Ashtabula the 2004 Ohio State JBQ champions! Ashtabula wins its first state title in its second year with a JBQ program. Astabula finished in a tie with Springboro, winning on tie breakers, in the wildest finish I can remember. With two rounds left Springboro was 5-0, Dayspring 4-1, Lowellville (Another 2nd year program) and Astabula were 3-2. Beavercreek was 2-3 and Dayton Bethel was 1 -4. Springboro only needed to win one of its last two matches to clinch it's 4th straight State title and 1-4 Dayton was 1st up in round 6. Dayton Bethel continued its domance over Springboro, while Dayspring was also losing. To sum up the wild events, Springboro and Dayspring lost thier last two matches, Lowellville split and Beavercreek and Astabula won both. Creating a two way tie for 1st and a three way tie for 3rd. Astabula is invited to attend Regional and Nationals, while Springboro, Dayspring and Lowellville are invited to Regional with a chance to qualify for Nationals there.
Capital City deserves special mention as a record tying streak comes to an end. They had been to Nationals the 4 previous years (2000-2003) never finishing lower than 15th! This streak tied Highway Tabernacle (1997 - 2000) as the only churches in Ohio history to attend Nationals 4 straight years. Way to go Capital City!
If Clearcreek Springboro qualifies for Nationals at Regionals they will join Highway and Capital City as the only churches to attend Nationals 4 straight years. They also will the first church in Ohio History to attend Nationals 7 out of 8 years. See Ohio JBQ Trivia
Congratulations are in order for the other teams that qualified for the Masters Division. Beavercreek, Capital City, First Christian Cincinnati, and Dayton Bethel, who was the only church to beat the top two teams!.
