Congratulations to Highway Tabernacle/Youngstown, the 2000 Ohio State JBQ champions! This is their 4th State Championship and 2nd in three years. WOW! What a tournament! What else can you say when three teams enter the last round tied at 5 and 1? Those teams were Springboro Clearcreek Christian, Toledo Calvary and the State Champs Highway Tab. Springboro entered the last round as the team that controlled it's own destiny, a win over Toledo and they would be State champs due to beating Highway Earlier in the day. Toledo and Highway both needed help to be State champs. Toledo provided the help Highway needed beating Springboro on the 19th question, assuring themselves a trip to Nationals. Highway won their last match not knowing that Toledo was beating Springboro. Capital City earned their first post season birth by finishing 4th. Highway and Toledo are invited to Regionals and Nationals. Highway being the first church in Ohio history to go to Nationals four straight years. Springboro and Capitol city can both qualify for Nationals at Regionals. If Springboro qualifies for Nationls it will also be their fourth straight year. This group of 4 teams is as strong a group as Ohio has ever sent to Regionals. Is there a fourth National Championship for Ohio down the road? Any of these four teams could do it.
Congratulations are in order for the other teams that qualified for the Masters Division. Findlay First/Findlay, Tri-County/Cincinnati, New Life/Poland and Bethel Temple/Dayton. Qualifying for the Masters Division is an honor and we salute these teams hard work!
