Congratulations to Clearcreek Christian, Springboro Ohio the 1999 Great Lakes Regional JBQ champions! Springboro jumped out of the gate quickly going undefeated Friday. Bethesda Christian Church(Michigan), First A/G Lafayette Red Team(Indiana), and Calvary Church Naperville Team #1(Illinois) all stayed within striking distance on Friday.
Saturday saw Springboro falter twice in the first three rounds putting them into a tie with First A/G Lafayette Red Team(Indiana) and Calvary Church Naperville Team #1(Illinois). By this time Highway Tab Youngstown was lurking within a match of first by virtue of their consistent performance. With two rounds left 3 teams still had a shot at the title. Springboro and Naperville were tied at 12 - 2 , with Springboro having the tie breaker by virtue of thier victory on Friday. Youngstown was lurking within one match at 11 - 3. In the second to last round Springboro scored 285 points eliminating Highway from the race for first. Springboro and Naperville Team #1 both lost the last round creating a three way tie at 13 - 3. Springboro had more points then either Naperville or Highway and was declared the winner.
Based on the results from the Great Lakes Regional, Nationals should be a real treat. It looks as though this region will once again be sending a very strong group of teams to Nationals. Led by the always strong Ohio teams. Highway Tab has improved to the place where they have a good shot at their third National Title this decade! Springboro knows that repeating is a very difficult task, but their performance at the Great Lake Regional shows that they will be a team to contend with. Bethel Temple with the experience of Regionals under thier belt, know that they can compete at this level. Nationals should be a lot of fun, oh and Go Ohio!
