Congratulations to Alfordsville of Indiana the 2004 Great Lakes Regional JBQ champions! Alfordsville won 16 straight matches after starting the event 2 and 2 and this was just the tip of the Indiana ice burg as Indiana took 4 of the top 6 places, becoming the first Great Lakes state to send 4 teams to Nationals! Elkhart finished 3rd, Fort Wayne 4th and Newburg 6th. Naperville team 1 held the lead after Fridays quizzing with a 13 -1 record, they finished second, but just could not keep up with Alfordsville incredible winning streak. 2004 marked the addition of the Appalachian district to the GLR. For a district that is new to JBQ it was a rude awakening being placed in, historically, the top Regional in the Nation. We pray they learned bunches and will take it back to their district and share with the other new programs back home. This was the highest scoring GLR since I have been keeping track of it as three churches topped 190 per match.
With the new rules for qualifing for Nationals each Regional takes on a greater significance then in the past. The five State Champions finished in the following manor. (Calvary Elkhart (3), Bethesda Sterling Heights (7), Trinity Chapel Lousiville (8),Calvary Church Napervillle (12) and First Assembly Ashtabula (14). Thus a finish in the top six was required to qualify for Nationals. Congraulations to Allfordsville (1), Calvary #1 Naperville (2) First Assembly Fort Wayne (4), Clearcreek Christian Springboro (5) and Abundant Life Newburgh (6) for qualifying for Nationals.
Clearcreek Christian qualified for Nationals for the fourth straight year, joining Highway Tabernacle (1997-2000) and Capital City(2000-2003) as the only churches from Ohio to do so. Clearcreek also has become the first church in Ohio JBQ history to attend Nationals seven times in eight years. (1997-2004).
Will the Indiana dominance continue at Nationals? At this web site we always root for the Ohio teams. (It's a Ohio site! Duh!) So here is hoping that Astabula learned a bunch this year at Regionals and will be ready to step to the top at Nationals. Clearcreek has finished in the top 7 at Nationals the last three years, I'm sure they'd love to see that continue. We would not mind another "Great Lakes" show at Nationals either.
