Congratulations to the Quest team from First Assembly of God Lafayette Indiana the 2002 Great Lakes Regional JBQ champions! Lafayette First also had the 3rd place team and is looking very sharp for a third National title. Capital City, Columbus broke out of the gates on Friday with a 10 - 0 record, leading Lafayette Quest and Lafayette Junior Jammers by two and three matches respectively. After the two Lafayette teams there was a long jam of nine teams at 6 - 4 after Friday quizzing. Lafayette Quest beat Capital City head to head on Saturday to secure the 2002 Great Lakes title. Capital City's averaged 191.05 points per match, just missing topping last years Naperville team for highest scoring average at the Great Lakes Regional.
With the new rules for qualifing for Nationals each Regional takes on a greater significance then in the past. The five State Champions finished in the following manor. (Lafayette, Junor Jammers(3), Trinty Chapel, Lousville(6), Clearcreek Springboro(7), East Lansing(8) and Naperville J(13). Thus a finish in the top nine was required to qualify for Nationals. Congraulations to Quest Lafayette (1), Capital City(2) Sterling Heights God's Goliaths(4), Naperville C(5) and Dayton Indiana(9) for qualifying for Nationals.
The Great Lakes Region had won seven straight National Championships until last year when Concord North Carolina won. The Great Lakes Region was still very powerful taking spots two through seven. Will it be another Great Lakes team this year? How about Ohio, which has not won since 1998, but still has won the most titles, five!
