Congratulations to Calvary Naperville the 2001 Great Lakes Regional JBQ champions! Calvary follows their 2000 National Championship with a convincing victory at the Great Lakes Regional. Calavry got off to a fast start going undefeated on Friday. (10-0) Bethesda Michigan went 9-1 Friday night, but followed that with a 3-6 Saturday. East Lansing Michigan qualified for Nationals by virtue of finishing 2nd, going 6-4 on Friday and 9-0 on Saturday. Trinity Chapel Louisville also qualified for Nationals going 13-6 overall. United Methodist finished 3rd and were already an invitee to Nationals by virtue of finishing 1st in Indiana.
This was a disapointing performance for the Ohio teams, with Clearcreek Christian, 1998 National and 1999 Regional Champions with a new chruch name, finishing the best with an 11th place finish. Capital Ciy finished with the same record as Clearcreek, but finished lower(13) due to tie breakers. A couple items of note. First AOG Lafayette Indiana, two time National champions, finished a very respectable 6th, but this ended a streak of 10 straight National invitations. Clearcreek Christian Assembly finished 8-11. Thus recording their first losing record ever at States (11 times), Regionals (9 times) or Nationals (6 times). While both teams are disappointed with their 2001 results, one can not argue with the excellence of past results.
The Great Lakes Regional has provided the last seven National Champions. Will the streak continue? Guess we will find out in June!
