Thank you for agreeing to host a JBQ Match at your church.
These guidelines are a collection of our experiences. These are
by no means mandatory--these are just guidelines. If you have
any questions, please call your quiz coordinator.
Prior to the meet, provide a map and/or directions for teams
who are traveling to your area. Please provide a listing of nearby
hotels if teams are traveling far enough to spend the night.
It is sometimes helpful (but not necessary) to contract a group
rate.
Arrive 45-60 minutes before Orientation time to set up and
to find out where all the rooms are. Please let the quiz coordinator
know the name and phone numbers of the person who will be opening
up the facility for us.

Orientation Room
We will need one room where we can meet in the morning before
quizzing and in the afternoon after quizzing. This should be
big enough for all quiz teams, coaches, officials, parents, and
spectators. This group can be as large as 8-12 people per team.
A sound reinforcement system is not required, but is helpful
in larger rooms.
Contact quiz coordinator to see how many teams are expected
to attend this session.

Score Room
We usually try to keep up with scores during the day. We need
a desk or table where we can tally scores, or maybe even set
up a computer. This needs to have an electrical outlet nearby.
Let us know if a photocopier machine is available.

Quiz Rooms
Quiz rooms need to have three tables with chairs--two tables
with four chairs each for quizzers, and one table with three
chairs for officials. A podium or music-type stand is desired.
There needs to be at least four chairs behind each quiz table
for coaches, substitutes, and helpers. Some teams have spectators
who will want to see the action. Most quiz boxes have less than
12' electrical cords that need to be plugged in. If the tables
are not near outlets, we will need extension cords. If the room
is large (e.g., chapel, sanctuary), position the tables such
that the officials are facing the spectators.
Contact quiz coordinator to see how many quiz rooms we need.

Lunch
We request that the host church provide lunch, if possible.
This keeps the quizzers at the facility and keeps Quizzing on
schedule. You should collect a modest fee to cover your costs
(suggested: $3-$4) and get a head count first thing in the morning.
Please do not try to make this a fund-raiser, but do not come
short. Here are some ideas of what others have provided:
- Cold cuts, cheese, and bread
- Soup and sandwich
- Fried chicken
- Spaghetti
- Hot Dogs
- Pizza
- Lasagna (purchased frozen and baked at church)
- Tacos - build your own
- Chips
- Drinks - punch, tea, soft drinks, water.
|
- Chili
- Nacho Bar - chips, cheese sauce, lettuce, sour cream, ground
beef, salsa.
- Potato Bar - baked potato, cheese sauce, sour cream, ground
beef, salsa.
- Salad (like a small dinner salad, can be purchased in bags
and served in disposable bowls.)
- Fruit Bowl - apples, bananas

Be creative! It's nice to have something different. Keep it
simple. We are serving primary-aged children--they can be messy.
Some coaches prefer the quizzers to have complex carbohydrates
(fruits and grains) rather than pizza and candy bars.

Clean-Up
Let us know what we need to do to help restore your facility.
We recognize that most churches do not have a maintenance staff
to restore on Saturday afternoon for church on Sunday. If we
can move tables and chairs, it helps to have a map or an inventory
(count) of what to leave in the quiz room or move to the hall.
