  • What is Junior Bible Quiz?

JBQ is an opportunity to teach the Word of God to primary-aged children. JBQ provides a framework of Facts, Fun, Fellowship, and Faithfulness. JBQ provides healthy competition to motivate quizzers to learn.

Check out these guidelines, as well.

How do I start a team?

Get a copy of the question set--either in the Fact Pak Cards, or in a notebook. Get a copy of the Official Guidelines. Get together a group of 3rd - 6th Graders. Begin studying the 10-point questions. Contact your district JBQ Coordinator for quiz schedule.

Some existing teams teach first year quizzers the 10-point questions, and add the 20- and 30-point questions in their 2nd and 3rd years. This depends on the quizzer's ability and motivation.

Check out these hints, as well.

Is there a difference between Georgia JBQ and other districts?

Georgia uses the Official JBQ Guidelines, published by the Gospel Publishing House. There are four league quizzes per year, each covers a quarter of the questions (including any previous questions). The District Finals are held in March, quizzing the entire question set.

Georgia JBQ introduced half-box quizzing for the B League, to reduce the amount of material for the younger and/or newer teams. Georgia JBQ re-ordered question sets so that the questions for each league match would be in a specified subject area, instead of being the next numerical sequence from the Fact Pak. This format has been successful and will continue for the foreseeable future.

    How do you break ties?

TIE GAMES - The Guidelines give instructions for handling tie games. There are three overtime questions--one 10-point, one 20-point, and one 30-point question, in random order. If there is still a tie, the teams answer 20-point questions until someone scores (a.k.a., sudden death).

TEAM STANDINGS - Team Placement is determined by win-loss record. Ties are broken head-to-head competition first, then by total points.

Are the quizzers recognized for their achievements?

Absolutely, YES! They are recognized on several levels.

QUIZZER RIBBONS - At each quiz meet, top quizzers will receive ribbons, based on total points in each league. Ties are not broken.

QUIZ OUT BADGES - If a quizzer "quizzes out" (gets 6 correct answers during a quiz round), he earns 10 bonus points for his team. We provide a badge to every quizzer who quizzes out and they earn a sticker for each time they quiz out.

QUIZZER TROPHIES - At District Finals, the top 10 quizzers for that meet will receive trophies: 1st - 10th place quizzers (by total points) in each league. Ties are not broken.

TEAM PLAQUES - At District Finals, all teams will receive plaques. Team Placement is determined by win-loss record. Ties are broken head-to-head competition first, then by total points.

Bible Master Award - See below.

101 CLUB - The Fact-Pak includes questions with answers that must be quoted verbatim. Quizzers can qualify as members of the 101 Club. Check that out here.

What is the Bible Master Award program?

We have a diverse group of students who participate in JBQ. Some quizzers will study and learn the questions, but may not score high enough in an actual quiz meet to receive ribbons or other recognition. The Bible Master Award program is designed to reward those quizzers. Please see the details on these linked pages:

CERTIFICATE and SEALS - Coaches quiz their students on one of four levels. The student will earn a certificate and seal stickers that can be purchased from Gospel Publishing House.

AWARD PINS - In addition to the seal stickers, you can award them a wearable Seal Pin. The Georgia District provides Seal Pins to all current quizzers as they earn them. Contact Craig Johnson for details about the Seal Pins.
